Perisher First to Open their Superpipe

Perisher have just opened their 17 foot superpipe for riding a couple days ago, much to the delight of the local shred heads. They are the first in Australia to open their pipe for the winter 2010 season and it is already being put to some solid use.

It took a dedicated team of groomers over ten days and around 9000 cubic metres of snow to build the 100 meters (328 feet) long, 16 meters (52 feet) wide and over 5 meters (17 feet) high pipe. Definitely nothing to be sneezed at.

It’s just awesome to see the dedication resorts are putting towards freestyle riding despite the lack of decent snowfall (until 3 days ago yeeeww!). Rail and jump parks are often well represented but the faithful pipe is often overlooked so well done Perisher for getting this one together.

Looking forward to seeing some shots of the locals shredding the pipe in the coming days as well as during the 2010 Australian Junior Halfpipe event on Saturday 14 August. This is also the day some lucky riders will be ‘Riding with Torah for a day’ – let’s hope she takes some laps through the pipe too!
