Ski hire and snowboard hire

23.08.2007

Why would you own a pair of skis or a snowboard when you could much more conveniently hire them at the local ski hire store? This removes the need to haul them to and from your holiday and with that comes much freedom.

In addition, keeping your skis or snowboard in top condition is a lot of work. Hot waxing and filing can take hours. Hire skis are restored to pristine condition after each and every rental, not to mention replaced on a regular basis. There has never been and easier choice!

Make sure when you first try on the rental boots (be you a skier or boarder) that you are wearing the same type of sock you plan on wearing when you take these boots down the mountain. They should fit nice and snug and the heal unable to be lifted.

The friendly rental staff should be able to assist you with the height of the snowboard or skis you should hire and will be able to adjust the bindings to the correct settings before you leave the ski hire store.

Some things to consider if you are a skier include:

  • Shorter skis are easier to carry because they are lighter and can generally turn quicker but they are not as rider-friendly at high speeds as longer skis tend to be.

  • Pick a ski that is anywhere from chin level to head high. Advanced skiers should choose skis equal to or within three inches below their height. Beginners and intermediate skiers use skis that reach the chin or nose.

If you are a snowboarder:

  • There are two types of boards to choose from, freestyle and freeride. Unless want to ride the half pipe or pull backside 180's, you're most likely a "freerider". That means you will need a board with ample side cut for carving long turns and with enough length to keep you riding on top of the powder.
