GoPro Launches 3D HERO® System; World’s Smallest 1080p 3D Camera. Professional Quality at a Consumer Price

Innovative Modular Design Enables Consumers to Combine two 1080p HD HERO Cameras to Create Professional Quality 3D Camera System

GoPro, the world’s leading activity camera company, today announced the availability of the much anticipated 3D HERO® System, a waterproof 3D expansion kit for GoPro’s best selling 1080p HD HERO camera. The 3D HERO System is available immediately at GoPro.com and is shipping to GoPro retailers worldwide with an MSRP of $99.99.

The 3D HERO System has an industry-first modular design that enables consumers to combine two 1080p HD HERO cameras to form a single 1080p 3D camera, the world’s smallest and least expensive one at that. Waterproof to 180 feet, the 3D HERO System can be worn on the body, mounted on gear and vehicles, and used as a handheld camera. A dual-camera, polycarbonate, waterproof housing holds the two cameras together and a synchronization cable plugs into the back of each camera, enabling them to function as a single camera. A single shutter button controls both cameras.

“The 3D HERO System is exciting for a lot of reasons, one of them being that it’s not just a 3D camera. It’s really several cameras in one, depending on how the consumer wants to use it,” says Nicholas Woodman, GoPro’s founder and CEO. “That you can take two GoPro cameras that you would normally use independently and combined them to form a new type of camera, a 3D camera…that’s extremely cool. GoPro is excited to be the first company to build a camera this versatile.”

“In addition to being a top selling consumer camera, the HD HERO camera is used by more professional production crews in the broadcast and film industry than any other camera in its class,” adds Woodman. “We expect the 3D HERO System to further establish the HD HERO as one of the most versatile cameras in the world.”

The 3D HERO System housing is only 5 inches (130mm) in length and 2.5 inches high (62mm) and is compatible with existing GoPro mounting accessories.

The 3D HERO System includes:

    * 3D HERO Waterproof Housing
* 3D HERO Synchronization Cable
* Skeleton Door (allows for optimal sound capture in dry environments)
* 3 Pairs of 3D Anaglyph (Red/Blue) Glasses
* Helmet Front Mount
* 2 Flat and 2 Curved Adhesive Mounts
* Free Download: GoPro CineForm Studio 3D editing software
* GoPro’s 1080p HD HERO cameras are not included with the 3D HERO System and are sold separately, starting at $259.99 per camera.

GoPro CineForm Studio™: 3D Content Creation Made Easy
Included as a free software download from gopro.com, GoPro’s CineForm Studio software makes it easy to create, watch and share your 3D photos and videos. Mac and PC compatible, CineForm Studio combines the 2D photos and videos captured with the 3D HERO System and converts them into 3D H.264 files that you can watch on your computer, online at YouTube, and on your 2D or 3D television at home.

Announced on March 30, GoPro acquired CineForm, a leading video compression software company famous in the film and broadcast industry for their high quality compression and editing applications. GoPro’s CineForm Studio software is a direct extension of CineForm’s award winning professional applications and puts the power of Hollywood-caliber 2D and 3D editing in the hands of consumers.

Professional Options for Professional Content Creators: GoPro CineForm Codec
GoPro’s professional customers will appreciate that in addition to being able to export YouTube friendly H.264 video files, CineForm Studio can also export video files using the GoPro CineForm codec. The GoPro CineForm codec is a professional quality video codec that allows for lossless 2D and 3D video editing in a variety of leading editing programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, and Sony Vegas, as well as Apple iMovie and Windows Movie Maker. Used by Hollywood pros to create films such as Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire, the GoPro CineForm codec is included as a part of the free CineForm Studio download from gopro.com.

GoPro 3D Center: The How, What, and Rad of 3D Content Creation
To help consumers understand how much fun it is to capture and create 3D content, GoPro has developed an online information resource – GoPro 3D Center. This online resource features written and video tutorials about 3D in general, how to capture incredible content with the 3D HERO System as well as how to view your 3D content on your laptop, online at YouTube, and on 2D or 3D TVs. Complete product specifications, instructions and system requirements can also be found in the GoPro 3D Center at http://www.gopro.com/3d-overview

“The 3D HERO System democratizes professional quality 3D content capture, making it affordable and easy for anyone to create engaging 3D movies. We’re excited to watch our customers GoPro in 3D and we believe the 3D HERO System will help spur the proliferation of 3D content, helping the 3D movement as a whole,” concluded Woodman.

Contour, market leader in hands-free video cameras, today announced the availability of its ConnectView card and Viewfinder App for iPhone and iPod touch. The ContourGPS camera is a hands-free video camera designed to capture location and HD video.

The ConnectView card is inserted into the ContourGPS camera and connects it with iPhone or iPod touch over Bluetooth. Once the connection is established, the Viewfinder App enables iPhone or iPod touch to act as a live viewfinder.

The ConnectView card is compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation).

“This changes the game in hands-free video,” states Contour CEO Marc Barros. “With this solution, we’ve overcome the limitation of a video camera lacking a wireless screen. Now when your camera is mounted you can actually look at a screen to line up your shot and change your settings in real time. Hands-free video just got a lot more hands-free.”

To use the new feature, ContourGPS video camera users must:

Update the firmware on their ContourGPS camera.

Purchase the Contour ConnectView card ($29.99 MSRP) from http://www.contour.com.

Download the free Viewfinder App from the App Store.

The Contour Viewfinder App is available for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com.

For complete instructions and additional information, visit http://contour.com/mobile.

The ContourGPS camera brings together three of the hottest trends: mobile, location and video. It goes beyond being just a camera-it’s an all-in-one platform that offers innovative software in conjunction with a vibrant online community. Customers can record, post, and share their video adventures while tracking their path, speed, and elevation on a map-all at the same time. A rugged video camera made specifically for the estimated 100 million outdoor enthusiasts around the world, ContourGPS makes it easy to capture video from within the action and share it online in seconds.

We all LOVE to travel right? We all dream through summer of all the nice places we could go and get our Snowboard on-so what happens once we do? What are the best spots to go out and hit the town? Our friends at Vagabondish.com previewed the top 5 for us!

Chamonix is known not just for its world-class skiing, but also a rich, cosmopolitan apres-ski scene. With a host of great bars and fantastic restaurants from which to choose, the nightlife isn’t to be missed. Here, we reveal our choices for the top five can’t-miss bars in the region.

#1: BAR LE DERAPAGE

With a name like Le Derapage – literally translated as “the slippery slope to ruin” – how can you not love it? This cozy local bar, just opposite the Chamonix post office, offers a perfect mix of English and French. Follow the neon sign from street level down a small alley to hang out at a spot the Daily Telegraph dubbed “a well-established favourite with locals”. Tip: don’t miss their flavored vodkas – all made onsite and all well worth a sample.

#2: MUNSTER BAR

Touted as Chamonix’s “only genuine Irish bar”, Munster Bar is a popular spot among locals and tourists alike. It features a wealth of live music and entertainment on any given night. Sports fans will love the bar’s live Irish channel and SKY satellite feeds, providing nonstop action including football, rugby, skiing and extreme sports. In the winter, enjoy sipping a hot toddy by the fireplace; while in the summer, guests are invited to bask in the sun on the terrace.

#3: THE JEKYLL

Located in Cham Sud, just next to the main bus stop, is The Jekyll. This lively bar and restaurant is locally known for its incredibly friendly staff and great atmosphere, making it the perfect spot for dinner and apres-ski drinks. The bar offers free Wi-Fi, daily happy hour specials (from 4 p.m.) and all major sporting events shown on large televisions throughout the venue. Stick around later in the evening for plenty of live entertainment, including stand-up comedy acts and international DJs who turn the otherwise chill vibe into a thumping, can’t-miss nightlife scene.

#4: THE VAGABOND

Okay, okay … perhaps we’re a bit partial to Le Vagabond for its name. But this hostel-bar-resto combo located just a minute’s walk from the edge of town also features one of the coziest, most relaxed pub atmospheres in the whole of Chamonix. The menu provides a host of standard pub fare including BBQ, burgers, curries and roasts but with an international twist. Don’t miss the outdoor terrace with sweeping views of Mont Blanc and Brévent.

#5: MONKEY BAR

Yet another popular apres-ski spot for tourists and locals alike, Monkey Bar is located in Cham Sud. With an eclectic, convivial atmosphere, long happy hours, plenty of live music, and local DJs, it’s a favorite among the younger, jetsetting clientele. It’s no wonder the Guardian’s Jonathan Trigell called it “the place to be these days. The combination of The Soul Rats playing live and a generous happy hour will rapidly transform tired ski boots into dancing shoes.” They also offer free Wi-Fi and all major sporting events on a host of televisions throughout the venue.

Niseko is a small, yet Japan’s top ski resort town located in Abuta District, Shiribeshi, Hokkaidō. Because of its northern location, the weather steams which come from the Siberia pick up a sudden surge of moisture from the Sea of Japan and slam into the peaks of Niseko, producing the best volumes of lightest and driest powder in the world.

Niseko is divided into three regions, Hirafu, Annapuri and Higashiyama. These regions differ in terrain and the quality of snow they receive.

Hirafu

Hirafu is considered the best place for powder, knee deep snow in Niseko (some people go ahead and compare the lace with entire Japan). After a good blizzard or snow fall, people just rush to ride the elevator for the first run at the snowy slope. The terrains offer a number of different courses, with varying tree density and gradient for skiers from beginner to advance. It is also a great place for snowboard lovers with big half-pipe, one-make and table-top jumps along with natural quarter pipes and hits everywhere.

Because of the high quality of snow, Hirafu hosts a number of snow sports event and is the major tourist attraction in Niseko.

Max elevation: 1200 meters

Min. elevation: 300 meters

Number of courses: 34

Longest run: 5600 meters

Min/Max Temperature: -2/-5

Min/Max snow depth (cm): 180/330

Annupuri

Unlike the Hirafu region, Annupuri offers less challenging courses and is suitable for novice and intermediate skiers and boarders (definitely where I fall). The quality of snow at Annupuri is almost similar to Hirafu but if you are a snow freak, you will find more quantity in Hirafu than in Annupuri. The night life of Annupuri is quite dull because there isn’t much to do. Unlike Hirafu which is as lively at night as it is at day time. Some terrain and snow facts regarding Annupuri are:

Max. elevation: 1156 meters

Min. elevation: 400 meters

Number of courses: 13

Longest run: 3500metres

Beginner: 30%   Intermediate: 50%   Advanced: 20%

Snow-boarding: Table top

Min/Max temp: -3/-7

Min/Max snow depth (cm): 165/ 248

Higashiyama

Even the pros agree – “Powder doesn’t get any better than this”. Right until the end of the day the snow at Higashiyama is in great quality. With the longest 4.5km exciting mogul run, and a great snow park for boarders, this is an excellent all-round resort. Although Higashiyama provides good snow and best place for front valley skiing, it is a less popular region of the Niseko (there seems to be no reason why). So if you are able to find good place for your self, be assured that no one will disturb you. Some facts for this place are:

Max. elevation: 1170 meters

Min. elevation: 280 meters

Number of courses: 12

Longest run: 4500 meters
